We live in a thirsty world. Agriculture is thirsty, industry is thirsty, WE are thirsty.

Water is the only precious resource that can quench our thirst. Unlike oil, it has no alternatives. Water sustains life, agriculture and industry. Hence, it is the greatest fortune we can pass on to our future generations.

We, at SNS Ventures JLT, work to see water in a new way—not only as an irreplaceable resource, but also as a viable, long-term investment opportunity.

Our current focus is India. With 2.4% of the world's total area, India has 16% of the world's population, but only 4% of the total available fresh water. Of the 1,869 BCM water potential in India, only 690 BCM of surface water and 433 BCM of ground water can be put to use. Moreover, the country's per capita water availability is much lower compared to the global average of annual per capita water availability of ~7,700 cubic meter. Though India currently has adequate water resources, it is rapidly moving towards being 'water stressed' (less than 1,700 cubic meter/ person/ year).

India on the growth path. Water sub-sectors are poised for a higher growth potential than other Infrastructure sectors in India. Bottled Water is poised to grow at 32% per annum, while Water Purifiers (25%), Water & Waste water treatment (18%), Filtration (19%), Desalination (18%), Automation (22%), Testing (30%) show impressive growth potential in the short term. In comparison, the anticipated growth in other infrastructure sectors are Telecom (13%), Roads (19%), Power (22%), Airports (19%), Ports (13%).

It is our belief that water will emerge as a "sunrise sector" in India in the coming decade offering huge potential for the entrepreneurs and investors.
